If spoken, these words put you in a cloud of constant praise and instant covenant by peers and adults alike. All your problems are solved with these two words. Class rank: nothing but a number

Imagine having no identity; no personality or character. Imagine being only defined as a number and nothing more. The Glendale Unified School District’s (GUSD) class rank system has been doing just this to each of its students with class ranking. Assigning numbers to students makes the statement very clear schools do not care about the pupil as an individual, but only as a number, hence limiting all their efforts, talents, hopes and dreams. Recently, music has been all about who can make the loudest, most outrageously risqué collaboration of sounds and lyrics. In the midst of all the sweaty, bare-all music videos and sexually charged ruckus of words, where has the personality gone? Sixteen: an age of independence, freedom, and most importantly, excitement.
Once teens reach this critical age, they immediately prepare to venture out into the open road as verified drivers. Due to overbearing parents, however, some teenagers never experience this sense of enlightenment.
Technology has advanced to a point where it becomes a threat to the privacy of individuals. The installation of cameras inside the cars of teen drivers is a preposterous method for parents to incessantly monitor their children. These programs are to be considered a violation of personal privacy and should therefore be abolished. (more…)
New band uniforms boost school spirit and performers’ confidence

From now on, as they trek across football stadiums during half-time and showcase their talents in concerts and competitions, the marching band can hold its head up higher with greater school pride, as they wear their new royal purple and black uniforms. Each uniform has a shining star on its hat and a tornado badge with “Hoover High School Marching Tornadoes” embroidered on its sleeve. (more…)
