Computers, cameras, and other photography equipment were stolen on campus during the second weekend of school.
The funds for this equipment had been “accumulated over six years through grant writing, fundraising by photo club, and private donations,” photography teacher Allison Stewart said. More supplies had been purchased just last year with the aid of the Governor’s Grant.
“[Stewart] worked really hard for the equipment and it all got taken away,” advanced placement (AP) photography student Erna Mitaishvili (’09) said.
Around half of the content required for the AP Photo portfolio involves digital work and the loss of equipment. As compensation, the district has loaned the class three Macintosh computers.
“I’m very happy that my students will be able to get back to work,” Stewart said.
No information has been released concerning who the perpetrator of the theft may be. The Glendale Police Department is currently running an investigation.
“There had been an issue with the security cameras at the time,” Assistant Principal Bill Sterling said. “[But] the alarm system is currently up and running.”
