Student population reaches record low

Though the hallways may feel more crowded, overall the student enrollment for the 2008-09 school year has reached a record low.
In just the last year, enrollment dropped from 2,170 to the current enrollment of 2,050 students. Over the past decade, enrollments has dropped by nearly 1,000 students. (more…)
City council to vote on smoking ban ordinance

The Glendale City Council plans to make the city healthier by amending a smoke-ban ordinance. Council members will vote on the matter on Sept. 30.
According to Section One of the ordinance, the purpose of the ban is to “protect the public [by ensuring] a cleaner and more hygienic environment for the city.” It also aims to “strike a balance between the needs of [smokers and] nonsmokers.” (more…)

After two years in existence, the administration decided to stop the “Writing Days” program.
Initially created to help improve students’ writing skills, the program became too constrictive for teachers. They requested more freedom in the manner by which they presented writing in their classes.

Every year, 400,000 people die of cancer related illnesses; a majority of these deaths are caused by lung and breast cancer. Imagine if all of these people had been aware of their various cases. If they were more prepared or more exposed to advanced medication.
