Over the weekend, the senior tree was cut in half and, on Monday, students arrived on campus to discover that it was cut down completely by school officials.
“For safety issues, the administration had the district cut down the rest of the tree,” assistant principal Bill Sterling said.
Some students claimed that there is a slight possibility that another school may have been involved in the vandalism of the campus trademark.
In addition to the vandalism of the tree, explicit comments pertaining to the senior class were found written on the quad stage along with graffiti behind the Students Activities Center and the pool wall on the same day.
“The seniors are blaming the juniors for this act, but I don’t understand why they would blame us, since we want the tree for next year as well,” Associated Student Body junior class president Diana Ardaryan (’09) said.
According to Dean of Attendance Mark Rubio, there is no evidence as to who might have been involved in this incident.
The school has filed a vandalism report with the Glendale Police Dept. and the campus security staff is concentrated on finding any suspects linked to the vandalism.
