While holiday feasts and beautifully wrapped presents may be at the top of most students’ lists for this holiday season, Humanity Elevating Local Problems (HELP) club realizes that this may not be the case for everyone.
For this reason, HELP club has organized a special on-campus lunch to take place today in the quad in order to raise money for the Salvation Army’s Help An Angel foundation. For $5, students can purchase a plate of lasagna, a serving of salad, and a bread roll, with a drink and healthy dessert.
Club co-founder Megan Reilly (’09) said that the lunch will not only provide students with food, but also the knowledge and awareness of people who have less to be thankful for this season.
Moreover, HELP is determined to raise at least $400 in order to buy gifts for children within the local area. The participants of the club have committed to a minimum of 20 angel tree tags. One angel tree tag lists the name, age, size, and toy wish of a less fortunate child in the community and they hope to replace those 20 or more tags with presents that the Salvation Army will pick up and deliver to eager children.
This lunch is just one of their many ways to help out their community around them.
