What does it take to be a great runner?

Do you have to just run a lot or should you be able to do a mile in under five

minutes ?

“ It’s mostly about dedication,” said Cross Country and Track coach Jack

Detrosyan makes magic
Wednesday October 31, 2007

By Staff Writer, Allen Zakaria

There are three steps in a trick. First comes the pledge, when the magician shows something that appears ordinary. Then comes the turn where he takes something ordinary and makes it extraordinary. The last and final step is known as the prestige, when you see the most unbelievable and shocking outcome of the trick.
You may ask who can provide such magic for you; the answer is no one other than our very own Narek Petrosyan. Petrosyan is a senior this year, but unlike most seniors, Petrosyan is somewhat magical. (more…)

One book One City come to Glendale
Wednesday October 31, 2007

By Staff Writer, Alex Von Ritzhoff

“What are you reading?” is a question that is easily answered in Glendale these days.
One Book One Glendale is a city-wide reading event happening right now. Mary Alice Wollam and Pat Parzeia, co-founders of the program, chose this book to be read by the entire city early October to late November.More...
The book chosen is Julie Ostuka’s novel, When the Emperor Was Divine, a story about a Japanese family’s experience in an internment camp during World War II.

Here at school, English students are reading the novel, and next week Ostuka will be visiting the campus, helping students gain a deeper understanding of her work.
One Book One Glendale hosts meetings about once every two weeks to discuss the book at different locations such as Whole Foods, Starbucks, Borders, etc. It advertises through “brochures, public appearances, and [write-ups] in the Glendale News Press,” Wollam said.
During their meetings, they ask questions and comment about the book.
“I liked the book because it was short,” said John Hotonian, a prominent member of the club. Club member Barbara Lukaszewski said she likes the book because it makes her “want to learn more about [the internment camps].”
They go into more detail about the book and the world events that occurred during the time. For example, they discuss the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and how the U.S. government ordered all Japanese-Americans to be placed into relocation camps.

Last week was filled with more controversy between Hoover and Glendale than there was in the ongoing trade demands of Kobe Bryant.

Early in the week, Hoover’s pool was found vandalized, as first found by the water polo team and their coach.  The destruction of the pool quickly led some to believe that Glendale High School was somehow involved in the mess that had occurred in school.  The fingers were impulsively pointed towards the Nitro’s, who were nearing the all important day in sports competition, Beat Glendale Day (BGD).             During the past month, one may have seen students dressed in suits and ties or skirts and heels on campus. It is highly likely that these students are enrolled in the Virtual Enterprise course offered on school.
Virtual Enterprise provides hands on experiences; it is open to students of all grade levels. The class is comprised of students who are starting a corporation from scratch and running it themselves. (more…)
