As soon as school ends on June 20, the entire administration office will be relocated to a 4,000 square feet bungalow that will occupy about one-third of the teachers’ parking lot.
The bungalow will consist of assistant principals, counselors, Student Resource Officers, a registrar, attendance, probation, data clerk, switchboard, and the health office.
However, for Principal Kevin Welsh and Associate Principal Deborah Baroi, they will be moving into a classroom in the 400 building.
Assistant Principal Hakop Eulmessekian stated that the reconstruction period is expected to last approximately eight months.
Recalling how it felt like to be confined in a single bungalow while the New Building was being constructed, Counselor Cathy Frazer said this new construction project is “going to be an adventure.”
“Before, in order to speak to parents whenever they came into the bungalow, we had to go outside and chat, because there was no space for privacy,” she said.
According to the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD), since the Measure K Bond was passed in 1997, GUSD has committed $186 million to the construction and modernization of schools. However, in light of proposition 47, when local and state fundings were combined, the total accrued to an additional $260 million for school renovation use.
