As summer is just around the corner, the Jazz Band is preparing to heat things up with Hooverstock 2007.
“[Hooverstock] is something we musicians do and highly enjoy,” guitar player Steve Aroutounians (’08) said. He also noted that it is a way to express yourself while having fun at the same time.
Music Coordinator Craig Kupka said, “the main priority of this concert will be to fund the publishing of both CD’s and DVD’s of the Jazz Bands’ performances.” Included in the CD and DVD versions will be the Rock Band’s previous April 27 performance, along with Hooverstock as the main attraction.
The Jazz Ensemble has prepared a list of songs to present to their audience, which includes tenor saxophone player Caity Brady’s (’08) favorites, “The First Circle,” and “Vailar A Cha Cha.”
Two spokespersons are always present during class practice or during a live performance to take control of the bands if Kupka is preoccupied. Their responsibilities include providing information about the pieces played during the concert to the audience.
“We host the shows and announce the songs to the public,” Spokesperson Magnolia Benitez (’07) said, who will also be playing the flute in the performances of The Downbeat Combos. The Downbeat Combos and Jazz Combos are the two arrangements of the Jazz Ensemble performances.
The concert is scheduled to take place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, in the Hoover auditorium. A $3 entrance fee is required.
