Minimum wage rises in ‘07

Diets, gym memberships, and other New Year’s resolutions are coming Jan. 1.
In addition to these changes, California’s minimum wage will rise to $7.50 and later to $8.00 in Jan. 2008. California is one of six states that require minimum wage levels to be higher than the federal minimum wage, which is currently $5.15. There have been proposals to increase the federal minimum wage as well to $7.25 by Jan. 2009 in a series of three 70-cent steps. (more…)
CSF floats towards Rose Parade

Here comes Santa Clause, here comes Santa Clause, right down…
Rose Parade Lane?
That is right. Monday, Jan. 1 marks the day when gallant horses, floral floats, and prize-winning marching bands will take place in the 118th Rose Parade, themed “Our Good Nature.”
The Rose Parade will kick off at 8:00 a.m. on its five and a half mile trek at the corner of Ellis Street and Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena and will be broadcast live on nine television networks and 150 countries around the world for two and a half hours. (more…)
New law provides high schools with more counselors

School counselors guide students by showing them their options for the future, whether it is entering a community college, a four-year university, or heading straight towards a career. In order for more counselors to be available, AB 1802 takes action.
This past June, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law AB 1802 which allocates $200 million, $67 per student, for more school counselors. (more…)
