BGD is all about school spirit. It is about uniting the four classes in a fun and friendly competition. And most importantly it is about beating Glendale High School in the annual rivalry football game.
But not these days.
These days BGD has several different focuses.
Pranks.
Vandalism.
Destruction.
Every year around November, the student body comes together in an effort to display the most enthusiasm and school spirit possible. And every year, other students try to mess it up.

Although not quite recognized nationally as the other rivalries mentioned beforehand, locally Hoover vs. Glendale is a big deal

The score is tied with one minute remaining.
The people in the stands grasp the edge of their seats. Hundreds of eyes remain widely open, carefully examining every second of the football game.
This could be the moment everyone is waiting for.
Suddenly, the offensive guard becomes a powerful force, moving left, right, then left again, using every muscle in his body to block the defensive linemen of the opposing team.
As sweat drips off his face, the audience looks in amazement. The offensive guard passes all his opponents, helping the other members of his team make yet another touchdown. The crowd goes crazy, screaming for joy.
This may be a dream to some, yet for offensive lineman Steve Herman (’07), this may be in his near future.

At 2:30 p.m., the official start of football practice, the football team immediately begins running plays and drills in preparation for upcoming games. Head Coach Dennis Hughes stands at the invisible helm, directing the plays with yells and practical comments, with starting quarterback Jonathan Rangel by his side.
