Public vs. Private schools

Private school versus public school.
It has been a long standing debate as to which is better.
Having been to both, I feel that I can speak with some authority on the subject, and the fact of the matter is: it does not matter.
Public schools have the bad reputation of overcrowding among many other things. Private schools have the looked down upon features of uniforms and tuitions, some of which can be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
The reason most people want to attend private school is based on the assumption that they will receive a better education. This is not true. The quality of the education is only measured by the quality of teachers. Paying a few thousand dollars a month does not ensure a better education. Take Steve Jobs, for example. He went to public school and has since become the co-founder of Apple computers, and CEO of Pixar entertainment.
It may seem that the experience of private school helps make better individuals, considering private schools have a different punishment system, one that allows corporal punishment. The ability of an administrator to administer corporal punishment unilaterally should make some people long for a public school.
There is also the fact that private schools are not required to provide a meal for lunch or keep religion out of the classroom.
Public school is not exactly wonderful either, with high student to teacher ratios, low levels of supplies, and lackluster funding. Yet, there have been millions of people who have been through the public school system and have moved on to Ivy League schools, becoming highly productive members of society, such as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg.
Some might say that private schools always seem to have better test scores and students always seem so smart. Well, it is easy to have high test scores and “smart” students when one can control who gets in, is it not? And even when a school controls its admissions, that does not mean that school will have the best students.
As previously stated, it is the teachers that make an education good. One can be in the most prestigious school in the country, but if the teacher lacks proper training it will be a waste of time and money.
