Fighting for nothing

I did not like the way she looked at me.”
“He said something about my mom.”
It is no surprise to hear such childish excuses being used by high school students as reason to start a fight— a pointless fight…
As we all know, there was a ridiculous fight at lunch on Tuesday. Over what?
No one knows.
Even so, people have been spreading rumors that there was a “riot”, that there were 50 police officers on campus, that a “bunch” of people got hurt; that students were arrested for assaulting police officers.
In actuality, only one student was arrested while three students were suspended.
Nonetheless, it is disgusting to hear that such a big deal was made out of a petty situation consisting of teenagers who lack racial tolerance and the ability to solve problems without having to resort to violence.
For so long, Hoover has been working hard to diminish its falsified reputation of being a “bad school.”
There is nothing bad about Hoover. There is nothing bad about the teachers. There is nothing bad about the administration. There is nothing bad about the sports teams. The only bad thing is the way some students act.
Students are the ones who give a school its reputation. Students are responsible for respecting their school. Students are responsible for acting rationally.
Although it may seem that this is far from possible, it really is not. Yes, it is unquestionable that when so much adrenaline is rushing through the body, one is not going to stop and think about the consequences. However, what reason is there to start a fight in the first place?
We amicably sit racially mixed in classrooms. We interact with people of different ethnicities every day of our lives. What is there about snack and lunch time that changes this? Do the mindsets of people haphazardly morph into something completely different, not to mention bizarre?
It may not be about race. It just may be about the need for unnecessary drama. It may be that individuals want to put a show on for fellow students to watch and talk about — untruthfully talk about.
Fighting is not the solution.
Fighting is not the way to express yourself.
Fighting is downright ridiculous.
