Who does one think of that is involved in various activities on campus, has the “purple and white” spirit, and yet is on track with her academics? A hard-working senior named Megan Dawson.

“Everything has its own time slot. I deal with things when they come to me,” said Megan Dawson (’05).

Dawson is involved in many extracurricular activities on campus and enjoys every second of it. She is the senior class Hoover Leadership Council (HLC) representative and is a member of the yearbook committee, Latin club, and the varsity softball team.

“She [is] so determined and has got a lot of spirit,” said friend Kelsea Mauerhan (’06).

Dawson loves the things she is involved in because they all benefit her. She enjoys yearbook because she can “create her own ideas” and it helps her in various ways, like teaching her how “to meet deadlines.” Dawson says that the class is fun because she gets to work on making things the way she wants, along with working in a fun environment.

Her role as an HLC member is to go to meetings and report back to her senior class cabinet about current events that are happening in the school.

With softball, Dawson feels that she gets “good exercise” and is able to have fun at the same time. She says that it took her about four years to finally become “better at [the sport].”

“Her attitude and energy are a huge support for our team,” said softball coach Julie Hoppe. “She gives a 110% everyday.”

Last but not least, she is a proud Latin student.

“I live for Latin Convention,” said Dawson. “It [is] so much fun meeting people.”

Linda Phillips, her Latin teacher, described Dawson as “Maxina est,” which means, “She is the greatest.”

“She is not just terrific in academics, but her integrity is great,” said Phillips.

Dawson was accepted by three schools: Menlo College, Dominion University of California, and Mount St. Mary’s College, all of which are in Los Angeles. She favors Mount St. Mary’s College the most because of the “teacher involvement” with the students. She is most probably going to major in their liberal arts program.

“I am so proud of my daughter because she gives her everything in all that she does,” said Debbie Dawson, Megan’s mother. “She never gives up and is always brave with all that she does, making sure she tries her best.”

Dawson finds inspiration in her parents because she feels that they help her and are always there for her. If it were not for her parents, Dawson would not be able to do things as successfully as she does them today.

“My parents support me and make me feel confident,” said Dawson.

Dawson is charismatic, an important trait to have with the many things that she is responsible for and involved in.

“She is never negative. She always thinks positively,” said Martha Gomez (’05).
